‘Lapu Rep. Radaza to review Olango captains’ manifesto’
REP. Arturo Radaza (Lapu-Lapu City) promised to move for a review in Congress of the manifesto signed by 11 barangay captains in Olango Island seeking to create a separate municipality from Lapu-Lapu City.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, who is Congressman Radaza’s wife, said that the move to become a municipality would have to undergo a lot of processes.
We can start by determining their readiness. We can study, if by breaking free, they can stand on their own and grow economically at a faster pace,” she said.
Mayor Radaza said that the Lapu-Lapu city government would not worry if the 11 barangays would be made into a separate municipality since the city government had their own sources of income.
Lapu-Lapu City district is made up of 30 barangays.
Mayor Radaza associated the 11 barangays efforts to become a separate municipality to the country’s 113th celebration of Independence Day.
The Mayor also would want to study the 11 barangay’s proposal because it might boost the economy of these barangays.
Mayor Radaza said if the 11 barangays would be qualified in both their income and population to be a municipality, then she would not stop it as long as it would benefit these barangays.
Last month, 11 barangays signed a manifesto seeking to leave Lapu-Lapu City and form their own municipality.
Those who signed the manifesto were barangay captains from Caubian, Tingo, Talima, Baring, Sabang, Caw-oy, Sta. Rosa, Tungasan, San Vicente, Pangan-an and Caohagan.
The barangays are from the Olango Island group or the group of islets, located east of Mactan Island. /Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
