MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines now has 58,407 active COVID-19 cases, after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,637 new coronavirus cases on Thursday.

The DOH said active cases represent 4.4 percent of all the 1,339,457 confirmed cases in the country since the first infection was confirmed in the country last year.

There were also 4,585 more patients who have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 1,257,774. Meanwhile, another 155 people have died due to COVID-19, bringing the death count to 23,276—1.74 percent of all the cases.

The DOH reported an average of 6,554 new COVID-19 cases from June 11 to 17. The average number of additional cases from June 4 to 10 was 6,557, based on previous case bulletins from the health department.

On positivity rate, the DOH said 11.9 percent of the 44,425 people who were tested were found positive for the coronavirus last Tuesday.

According to the DOH, all laboratories were operational last Tuesday while five laboratories were not able to submit their data. The five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.66 percent of samples tested and 1.14 percent of positive individuals, based on data in the last 14 days.

Meanwhile, 12 duplicate entries, including 10 recoveries, were removed from the total case count. Another 235 cases initially tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 107 cases that were tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
