MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he thinks running for vice president in the 2022 national elections is a “good idea” since he still has not fully accomplished his promises.

He also said he has unfinished business such as ending corruption, criminality and the illegal drug problem in the country, and other infrastructure projects.

“Marami pang iba na hindi ko nagawa. ‘Yun ang naiwanan ko kasi hindi ko nagawa kasi hindi ko na kontrolado. Maybe being vice president would be good,” he said.

(I haven’t done a lot of other things. These things are left undone because I have not control over them.)

However, he said he is still reluctant to run in the 2022 polls, saying he deserves a “good rest” after his stint as President.

He is also still in a quandary of whether he would run for the vice presidency since he promised to House Majority Martin Romualdez should the lawmaker decide to run for the post.

Duterte’s party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), however, has formally urged him to run for vice president in the 2022 national elections.

Duterte earlier said he is reluctant to run for vice presidency in the 2022 elections as he is now ready to retire.
