A man in Derbyshire, England has been reported to police after he refused to wear a face mask because it supposedly “shrunk his manhood.”

Officers from Mercia police noted that the man (name withheld) gave a warning to fellow shoppers against using face masks in a local grocery store, as reported by Staffordshire Live on Sunday, June 13.

“Unbelievably, another seasoned shopper was reported to have advised customers not to wear [face coverings] because he felt it caused the shrinking of an unmentionable body part,” the police were quoted as saying.

Officers also noted that this is not the first bizarre reasoning they heard from those refusing to follow COVID-19 protocols. They recalled encountering a man who claimed that wearing a face mask reduced his intelligence and an elderly woman who refused to wear face coverings because she was already vaccinated.

“Please think about others who are yet to receive a vaccine. Your abrasive manner did not go unnoticed,” they said, noting that not following restrictions causes alarm and distress to store staff and customers.

Officers added that as COVID-19-related restrictions are being relaxed in the country, people should consider the impact of their “full-throttle antics” on service providers and fellow shoppers.

“Please respect grocery and hospitality workers – and if asked to wear a mask, unless you have an exemption, please put one on, even if you have been vaccinated,” they said.

The police reminded the public that those who get involved in the maltreatment of service providers may be asked to leave shops and businesses. They also warned that police could be involved if people “decide to become argumentative and abusive.” Dana Cruz/JB
