MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan City Government has turned three parish churches into COVID-19 vaccination sites.
Mayor Oscar Malapitan said COVID-19 vaccinations will be conducted at the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish church in South Caloocan and at the Our Lady of Parish church and the Christ the King Parish church both in North Caloocan.
“The churches are a big help to our vaccination programs to protect our citizens and achieve herd immunity,” Malapitan said in a statement, as he thanked Diocese of Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David for allowing the use of the three parish churches.
The vaccination run was tested on Tuesday with 200 vaccinees getting their jabs at the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish church. The actual vaccination run will start at the three churches on Saturday.
The local government said those who wish to be vaccinated under the A1, A2, A3, and A4 categories could go to any of three parish churches and pre-register.
To date, the Caloocan City government said it has provided 288,679 vaccine shots, of which, 288,679 are first doses, and 50,234 are second doses.
Caloocan City has recorded 37,048 COVID-19 cases. Of this number, 699 are active cases; 35,314 are recoveries, and 1,035 are deaths.
