Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So split a point with Swedish GM Hans Tikkanen in the third round of 19th Annual Sigeman Chess Championships at the Classic Hipp Theather in Malmo, Sweden on Saturday.
According to sportsman/ businessman Reginald Tee, long-time manager of So, the 17-year-old Bacoor, Cavite ace handled the black pieces and ended in a fighting draw after 31 moves of Queens Gambit Accepted, Alatorsev variation.
The young Filipino chess wizard is still on top with 2.0 points after three outings. He has the same score with defending champion GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands and GM Hans Tikkanen of Sweden.
Giri also drew his match against Spanish GM Alexei Shirov. Shirov remains at fourth with 1.5 points. Hector collected 1 point while Grandelius notched half a point.
In the fourth round, So faces Grandelius, Shirov takes on Tikkanen and Giri collides with Hector.
