Granular lockdown, tighter checkpoints eyed in Olongapo to curb COVID spread

OLONGAPO CITY—Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the local inter-agency task force on COVID-19 would consider imposing a granular or localized lockdown amid the surge in COVID-19 infections in the city.

In his recent weekly update, Paulino said the move would help curb the rising COVID-19 cases by determining specific areas and households where virus spreads or have high concentration of transmission.

He said this would also help local health authorities carry out contract tracing and caution neighbors of infected patients against leaving their homes.

According to the mayor, he has also coordinated with the local police about tightening control at various checkpoints in the city to ensure that minimum health standards are being followed.

So far, the city has 285 active COVID-19 cases out of the 2,299 infections recorded since last year

The city has also been grappling with COVID-19 deaths, which already rose to 119 as of Monday, June 14.
