Expect fair weather but ‘habagat’ may bring occasional rain, thunderstorm

DOST-Pagasa weather update, June 15, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Fair weather will prevail over most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, but scattered rain showers and thunderstorms should still be expected due to “habagat” or the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.

Cloudy skies and more consistent rain, however, should be expected in the northern part of Luzon, specifically, in the Ilocos region and Laoag.

“Sa Metro Manila, at sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon magiging maaliwalas ang ating panahon, subalit posible pa rin ang pagkakarooon ng panandaliang buhos ng ulan na dulot pa rin ng isolated thunderstorms,” said weather specialist Meno Mendoza.

(In the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, our weather will still be clear but there will still be the possibility of brief rains and isolated thunderstorms.)

No low-pressure systems or storms are also expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the next two to three days, according to Mendoza.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, will experience the same weather — fairly sunny skies with the occasional thunderstorms.

Forecast temperature range in key cities/areas:

No gale warning has also been raised in the country’s coasts.

“Kaya’t ligtas pa rin makakapalaot saan mang baybaying dagat ng ating bansa [So it is still safe to sail anywhere in the coasts of our country],” said Mendoza.

Moderate to rough sea conditions, however, are expected in the northern part of the country’s coasts due to habagat. The rest will experience slight to moderate conditions.
