MANILA, Philippines — No worker from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has contracted COVID-19 in “the last two weeks”, its chairman reported Monday, and that 55% of its workforce already received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said among its workers who received COVID-19 shots were traffic enforcers and personnel in charge of clearing operations in the National Capital Region.
“Ako ay natutuwa, for the last two weeks wala na akong kaso ng COVID-19 mismo sa MMDA. Halos siguro mga 60 percent nabakunahan na namin. Samantalang noong araw, sabihin na natin tuwing papasok ako rito, kailangan parating sarado ang isang departmento [due to COVID-19],” Abalos said in a Laging Handa public briefing.
(I’m happy that in the last two weeks, there have been no COVID cases in MMDA. Almost 60 percent are already vaccinated. Back then, every time I came here, there was at least one department closed due to COVID-19.)
But in a subsequent text message to INQUIRER.net, Abalos said that 4,313 or 55% of the 7,800 MMDA workforce have already received a vaccine dose against COVID-19.
It was not clear, however, how many from among the vaccinated employees have received the full two doses of a COVID-19 jab.
The MMDA started its vaccination program for its employees eligible under the government’s priority groups in April.
Earlier, the MMDA proposed the creation of express lanes for COVID-19 inoculation that would cater to the A1 to A3 priority groups while the government proceeds with the vaccination of essential workers who belong to the A4 category.

Medical frontline workers belong to the A1 priority group, senior citizens are under the A2 category while persons with comorbidities belong to the A3 group.
The country has administered 6,870,054 vaccines against COVID-19 with 1,855,472 fully vaccinated individuals as of June 13.
