MANILA, Philippines — Opposition coalition 1Sambayan’s mobile membership application was hacked over the weekend, one of its co-convenors said Monday.

Lawyer Howard Calleja said the coalition knew of the hacking on Saturday while they were conducting a program.

“Habang kami ay nagpoprograma noong Sabado, something like 4:30 [p.m.], nalaman namin na ‘yung aming membership app ay na-hack, and we are reporting this matter to the National Privacy Commission,” he told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo.

(While we were conducting a program on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., we knew that our membership app was hacked, and we are reporting this matter to the National Privacy Commission.)

According to Calleja, the group found out that the incident was a professional type of hacking.

“Napag-aralan namin (We learned) over Saturday and Sunday that it was a professional hack. We have our safeguards but obviously, it was a professional hack,” he added.

“Nalaman po na kailangan pang pagtibayin dahil gagawin po lahat ng dirty politics ng ating kalaban to maintain in power,” he claimed.

(We learned we have to strengthen it because our rivals will do everything in dirty politics to remain in power.)

On Saturday, the opposition coalition released the names of its six nominees for president and vice president in the 2022 national elections.

The group’s nominees for the upcoming elections are Vice President Leni Robredo, former Senator Sonny Trillanes, Senator Grace Poe, Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva, human-rights lawyer Chel Diokno, and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto.
