Cebu’s swab upon arrival policy backed

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Francis Tolentino has thrown his support behind Cebu’s imposition of quarantine protocols for arriving international passengers that run counter to that set by the pandemic task force.

Tolentino said he backed the Cebu provincial government’s swab-upon-arrival policy for passengers landing at Mactan-Cebu International Airport from abroad.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) requires all arriving international passengers to undergo quarantine for 10 days and have a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on the seventh day.

But Cebu allows those who test negative in the RT-PCR test to proceed to their final destination. Tolentino said the IATF should make things easier for passengers who want to fly to Mactan.
