LAOAG CITY—The total number of COVID-19 cases in Ilocos Norte province is almost at the 3,000-mark with the addition of 17 new cases on Friday (June 11), according to health authorities.

The province also logged 32 new recoveries and two COVID-19 related deaths of senior citizens from San Nicolas and Sarrat towns.

This brings Ilocos Norte’s active COVID-19 cases to 357 out of a total of 2,964 cases recorded since the pandemic started in March 2020, with Laoag City accounting for the highest number of cases at 142.

As of Friday, at least 26 areas in the towns of Bacarra, San Nicolas, Paoay, Marcos, Solsona, Pasuquin, and Dingras were placed on localized lockdowns as a “necessary precaution to stop the spread of COVID-19,” according to the provincial government.

The rest of Ilocos Norte however, remains under the least stringent modified general community quarantine, except for Laoag City which has been under general community quarantine since May 11.
