MANILA, Philippines — The rise of COVID-19 cases in Mindanao has slowed down, the OCTA Research said Friday, as Quezon City again surpassed Davao City on the number of new COVID-19 cases in the previous seven days.
OCTA Research said in its latest monitoring report that Davao City “had a slight decrease in cases, and has dropped to second overall in the entire Philippines.”
The average number of new COVID-19 cases in Quezon City from June 4 to 10 was 185 cases, while the average number of new cases in Davao City from the same period was 184 cases.

Hospital bed occupancy in Davao City continued to be at a safe level below 60 percent. The positivity rate was 12 percent while the reproduction number over the past week was 1.46.
OCTA Research has identified eight areas of concern, such as Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, and Cotabato City in Mindanao; Bacolod, Iloilo City, Dumaguete, and Tacloban in Visayas; and Tuguegarao City in Luzon.
“The trends continued to move downward in Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga City, but Cagayan de Oro continued to have high hospital occupancy rates,” said OCTA.
Meanwhile, Dumaguete in Central Visayas continued to have a surge in new COVID-19 cases, according to the research group.
“In Western Visayas, the increasing trend in Bacolod has slowed, while the trend in Iloilo City is now on a slight decrease. Hospital bed and ICU occupancy in Iloilo City remained high,” the researchers added.
OCTA Research also said that in Eastern Visayas, Tacloban had a “significant rise” in new cases, while hospital bed and ICU occupancy remained high.
