Masbate town vice mayor arrested in Camarines Norte

LEGAZPI CITY – The vice mayor of Batuan, Masbate province, who was one of the suspects in the killing of a former town official was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Mercedes, Camarines Norte, police said. Vice Mayor Nelson Cambaya, 58, was arrested in Barangay Quinapagian at around 5 p.m., said Police Colonel Julius Guadamor, Camarines Norte police chief. An arrest warrant from the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 in the National Capital Judicial Region was issued on April 26, 2021 against Cambaya for murder and frustrated murder charges. Cambaya was tagged in the killing of Charlie Yuson III, the former vice mayor of Batuan who was shot dead while he was having in a canteen in Sampaloc, Manila on October 10, 2019. Yuson’s two other companions, identified as Wilfredo Pineda and Alberto Alforte, were wounded. Cambaya is now in the custody of Mercedes police.
