SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– A 50-year-old female doctor has contracted COVID-19 after responding to a relative who died of the disease, an official said Tuesday, June 8.
Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the doctor wore a face mask and shield when she checked on her 86-year-old relative, who was found dead inside the latter’s house.
It was not immediately determined that the old woman was infected with COVID-19.
Bueno said the room where the patient died was air-conditioned, which could have caused the virus to spread quickly.
The doctor was among the 14 new cases of COVID-19 in the province that day.
Most of the other cases belong to the same households where infections spread among family members.
So far, the province has 669 active COVID-19 cases out of the 2,814 infections recorded since last year.
At least 2,092 of these patients have healed, while 57 had died.
