LUCENA CITY –– A 68-year-old village chairman in Lipa City in Batangas province was shot and killed Wednesday by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Batangas police, in a report, identified the victim as Cesar Catibog, chief of Barangay Pagolingin East.

The police said Catibog had just alighted from a barangay patrol vehicle with his driver, Joseph Surco, in Barangay 6 when the assailants aboard a black motorcycle suddenly appeared around 7:40 a.m. and repeatedly shot the victim using still unknown firearms.

The killer sped off towards the city center after the shooting.

The victim suffered fatal bullet wounds on his head and was taken by Surco to NL Villa Medical Center but died on the way.
