CEBU CITY –– City Mayor Edgardo Labella is taking a three-week leave of absence starting Wednesday, June 9, to attend to his health.

Labella said his physicians strongly advised him to take a “complete rest” after he had pneumonia, sepsis or blood infection, and an ear infection.

“My doctors really wanted me to rest, but I couldn’t do it at that time since the city was still battling with COVID-19,” he said.

“Now that the (COVID-19) cases in the city have dwindled, I decided to heed my doctors’ advice,” he added.

In Labella’s absence, Vice Mayor Michael Rama will serve as acting mayor for the next three weeks.

Labella also designated City Administrator Floro Casas, Jr. to keep all operations running in City Hall.

“During the next three weeks, I will be undergoing a medical workup to make sure there are no more infections in my body. Through this, I will just be in the City of Cebu,” Labella said.
