A 21-year-old woman shot and critically injured a nail salon owner over the cost of services in Houston, Texas, in the United States.
Joana Vara and her 20-year-old sister, Quetzali Vara, reportedly got into an argument with the Kate Nails owner on May 29, as per NBC affiliate KPRC-TV on June 4.
The altercation started because the two women were “unhappy with the price of the services,” investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said. The sisters had a manicure and a pedicure at the salon.
After arguing with the owner, Joana reportedly left the store while Quetzali continued arguing with the owner.
Joana then re-entered the store and started arguing again. When the owner tried to push her out of the store, she allegedly shot him with her handgun.
The sisters then fled the scene in their car. but Joana left her phone at the scene, according to the report.
The owner, a 42-year-old Asian man whose name was withheld, was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, as per NBC News earlier today, June 8.
Joana has since been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked in the Harris County Jail. Quetzali, was meanwhile, charged with evading arrest but not in connection with the shooting. Ian Biong /ra
