MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) monitored a magnitude 5.3 earthquake off the coast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte, on Tuesday morning.
According to the earthquake bulletin released by Phivolcs, the quake occurred at 5:41 a.m., with the epicenter located 68 kilometers (km) northeast of Burgos, Surigao Del Norte.
Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in Dapa, Surigao del Norte; Intensity II in Palo, Leyte, Surigao City and Abuyog, Leyte; Intensity I in Alangalang and Baybay, Leyte, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
State seismologists said that the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 1 km.
While no damages are expected, Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may occur.
