MANILA, Philippines — From 30 to 40 percent in April, Metro Manila now accounts for only 13 percent of active COVID-19 case nationwide,  the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

“Nakikita natin ngayon na ang NCR ay talagang bumababa na. Its share of cases in the totality of cases in the country is just about 13 percent na lang ngayon,” Health Undersecretary and spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online press briefing.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon accounts for 40 percent of active COVID-19 cases, while the Visayas has 20 percent and Mindanao 25 percent of active infections, according to Vergeire.

Vergeire earlier noted that Mindanao has already outpaced Metro Manila on the number of COVID-19 cases as coronavirus infections are seen increasing down south.

The Philippines currently has 59,337 active cases of COVID-19, while Metro Manila has over 10,000 active infections as of Sunday, based on the DOH tracker.

The DOH earlier said that the increase in daily COVID-19 cases in the country was more evident but it was reflected in the epidemic curve as a plateau, since the onset of illness of the new cases was recorded in the previous weeks.
