PNP logs 119 new COVID-19 cases, death toll hits 69
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reported 119 new COVID-19 cases and one death.
Hence, the death toll rose to 69, while the total number of COVID-19 cases since March last year climbed to 24,950, including 1,812 active cases and 23,069 recoveries.
The 69th death is of a 49-year-old police officer assigned to the Cagayan De Oro City Police Office.
According to the PNP health service, the said cop first experienced shortness of breath and was immediately brought to the nearby hospital on May 30 — where he was immediately intubated after getting diagnosed with pneumonia. He was then swabbed and transferred to the isolation unit of the said hospital.
He tested positive for COVID-19 the next day.
Article continues after this advertisementOn June 3, the officer was extubated as he was improving and continued to undergo hemoperfusion; however, he was reintubated the following day after his oxygen saturation greatly decreased.
Article continues after this advertisementHe was later pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m., June 5, by his attending physician.

On Sunday, the Department of Health reported that the country has so far logged a total of 1,269,478 COVID-19 cases (7,228 new infections), including 1,188,243 recoveries, 59,337 active cases and 21,898 deaths.
