2 riders dead in motorcycle-truck collision in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders died in a road accident in Calauag town in Quezon province Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Calauag police identified the victims as Enrique Magdato, 29, and his back-rider, Germano Olviga, 25, both residents of Calauag.

Police said the victims were aboard a 125cc motorcycle when they accidentally collided with a cargo truck being driven by Rolando Capiña in Barangay (village) Sumilang around 10:30 p.m.

With the strong impact, both riders were thrown off to the pavement and died on the spot from fatal injuries.

Police said the motorcycle occupied the opposite lane when it tried to overtake another vehicle but consequently collided with the oncoming truck from the opposite direction. The report did not state whether or not the fatalities were wearing crash helmets.
