PH’s active COVID-19 cases now at 59,543

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 59,543 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 6,955 new infections.

According to the DOH’s daily bulletin, the active cases now compose 4.7% of the 1,262,273 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country since the pandemic started.

Of this number, there are 1,180,998 recoveries, including an additional 8,109 new patients who have recovered from the disease.

The DOH also reported 181 new deaths, raising the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 21,732, which is 1.72% of the total caseload.

On positivity rate, the DOH said 13.6 percent of the 48,668 individuals who were tested for COVID-19 were found positive on Thursday.

The DOH said it removed 19 duplicates from the total case count, including 15 recoveries.

Meanwhile, 102 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on June 3 while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 document repository system.
