MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Commission on Good Government (PCGG) did not appraise and include in its books nine short firearms seized from President Ferdinand Marcos when the former dictator fled the country in 1986.
In its 2020 audit report, the Commission on Audit told the PCGG to conduct an appraisal of the firearms “to determine its current fair market value and record the same in its books” as confiscated property and assets.
The firearms were officially turned over by the United States to the PCGG in April 1993 but had remained unrecorded in the books of the PCGG for almost 28 years.
Two were Smith and Wesson revolvers, while seven were pistols branded Beretta, COP, Steyr and Colt. —Julie M. Aurelio
