Tacloban bans all forms of gatherings
TACLOBAN CITY—The mayor of this city has issued an executive order banning all forms of “in-person” gatherings amid a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Among those prohibited by Mayor Alfred Romualdez are school graduation ceremonies, concerts, sporting events, and other gatherings.
Violators face a fine ranging from P20,000 to P50,000 and imprisonment of not more than six months as provided under Republic Act 11332 or the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.”
At present, Tacloban has 2,813 COVID-19 cases where 270 were considered as active. At least 70 people in the city died due to COVID-19.
Teams from City Hall have been visiting business establishments to monitor if the order of the city mayor is being followed.
Despite the rising cases of COVID-19 in Tacloban, the city remains under modified general community quarantine, the loosest quarantine status in the country.
