2 dead as van hits truck in La Union

BAGUIO CITY –– A driver of a freezer van and his passenger died after their vehicle collided with a truck along the national highway in Santo Tomas town, La Union province Thursday (June 3), police said.
Investigators identified the fatalities as van driver Ruiz Heartzell, 27, and Mauricio Barawel, 26, both residents of Quezon City.

The truck driver was identified as Arnold Busa of Surigao City.

According to the police, the van occupied the truck’s lane for a still undetermined reason while traversing the highway in Barangay Tubod around 4 a.m.
The victims were taken to a hospital, but both were declared dead on arrival.
