TS Dante temporarily exits PAR; rain showers expected in western Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Dante has temporarily exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Friday morning, but cloudy skies and rain showers are still expected over the western side of Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 4 a.m., Dante was located 285 kilometers northwest of Laoag City with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 80 kph.

It is moving north at 20 kph.

Pagasa said that Dante exited PAR at 2 a.m. but is expected to re-enter on Friday afternoon and will make landfall in the vicinity of northern Taiwan in the evening.

Hence, Pagasa said cloudy skies and rain showers are still expected over the western portion of Luzon, particularly in the Ilocos region, Zambales, and Bataan.

The rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will have an improving weather but isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms are still expected, the weather bureau reported.

Generally fair weather is expected in the Visayas and Mindanao with possible isolated rain showers, said Pagasa.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said the low pressure being monitored within PAR was located 690 kilometers east of Legazpi City as of 3 a.m.

The state weather bureau, however, noted that the LPA has a minimal chance of developing into a storm.
