Magnitude 4.0 quake hits waters off northeast of Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit the waters off northeast of Burgos town in Surigao del Norte, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Thursday.

According to Phivolcs, the tectonic earthquake was located 32 kilometers northeast of Burgos, at a shallow depth of seven kilometers below the ground.

Phivolcs’ updated information showed that Intensity IV was felt in Burgos; Intensity III in Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte; and Intensity II over San Isidro and San Benito, Surigao del Norte.

Instrumental Intensity I was also recorded in Surigao City.

Despite the offshore quake, Phivolcs has not raised any tsunami warnings. No aftershock and no damage were expected with the earthquake.
