Globe gives free calls

MANILA, Philippines—Globe Telecom has set up Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in four Negros Oriental towns that were severely damaged by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the province last week.

A Libreng Tawag center was also put up in Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte which is currently under water following continuous heavy rains since Wednesday.

With the Globe Libreng Tawag service, residents of Jimalalud, Guihulngan, Tayasan and La Libertad can place free calls while those in Guihulngan can charge their mobile phones at no cost.  There has been no electricity in the towns for a week now.

The Libreng Tawag stations are located at Jimalalud Poblacion Central School, Negros Oriental State University and Tayasan police station. In Dapitan City, the center is at Burgos Elementary School.

At the same time, Globe started relief operations in the isolated sitios of Nagkalhim, Claubhinhan, Cadre and Bucana in Guihulngan where some 500 families are in dire need of food, water and other basic necessities.

The Globe disaster relief operations are being conducted in partnership with Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, a Church-based, Jesuit-led organization.
