DIGOS CITY –– A carpenter suspected of selling crystal meth was killed Tuesday in a drug buy-bust operation in Malalag town, Davao del Sur.

Captain Jocyviel Zamora, Malalag police station chief, identified the slain drug suspect as Genesis Alegado Ladiza, 42, of Digos City, who sold some P10,000 worth of meth to an undercover agent in Bolton village.

As the transaction was consummated and the operatives moved in for the arrest, Ladiza allegedly drew a handgun, fired at but missed the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent, who served as poseur-buyer.

Ladiza was hit in the chest when the PDEA agent fired back. He was rushed to the Davao del Sur provincial hospital in Digos City, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities seized from Ladiza’s possession a caliber .38 pistol and two packs of suspected meth weighing 11.17 grams valued at about P165,000 when sold on retail.

The operation against Ladiza was carried out by a combined force of PDEA and various police units in Davao del Sur.
