MANILA, Philippines — Will President Rodrigo Duterte heed his party’s call for him to run as vice president in next year’s elections? He will think about it.
This, according to his spokesperson Harry Roque, as Duterte will also think of what’s best for the country when he decides on the cry of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) members that he run in the 2022 polls as vice president.
“Sa lahat po ng nagtatanong kung ano ang kasagutan ng Presidente, ang kasagutan po ay pag-iisipan po niya,” Roque said in an online briefing.
(To everyone who’s asking what the President’s answer is, he will think about it.)
“Syempre po, sya ay na-nominate, kailangan pag-isipan. On the one hand, sabi niya nakapagsilbi na siya sa bayan. On the other hand, iisipin niya kung ano ang pinakamabuti para sa bayan. ‘Yun po ang kasagutan ng Presidente,” he added.
(Because he was nominated, it has to be thought about. On the one hand, he said he already served the country. On the other hand, he will think of what’s best for the nation. That’s his answer.)
PDP-Laban on Monday launched their formal push for Duterte to run as vice president in the upcoming national elections.
Duterte was also urged to choose his running mate for president in the 2022 polls, according to the political party’s resolution.
Roque has previously said Duterte will leave it to God on whether to seek the second-highest post in the country.
