MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has the highest number of daily COVID-19 jabs so far administered among the five largest countries in Southeast Asia, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the country’s vaccine manager, reported on Monday during the weekly “Talk To The People” of President Rodrigo Duterte.
This means that the Philippines vaccination rate has outpaced Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Vietnam in daily vaccinations, he said.
“This is a good sign that our LGUs [local government units] and the people from the Department of Health who supervise our vaccination are very systematic in what they’re doing,” he said in Filipino.
In the same briefing, Galvez said the Philippines had so far administered 5,180,721 doses of COVID-19 vaccines — 3,974,350 in first doses and 1,206,371 in second doses.
Galvez said the country was able to breach the five million mark even before May ended, pointing out that the doses administered this month tripled compared to the two previous months.
