MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed on red alert the Luzon grid, including Metro Manila, indicating the possibility of rotational brownouts throughout the region.
The NGCP said, in an advisory, that the Luzon grid will be on red alert starting at 2 p.m. and will last until 4 p.m., after which, the Luzon grid will be placed on yellow alert from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Being under red alert means that there are zero ancillary services or insufficient power supply in the grid, while yellow alert means there is low power reserves due to high electricity demand.
Earlier NGCP implemented manual load dropping (MLD) or rotational brownouts in some areas in the country “to maintain the integrity of the power system.”
The following areas will be under the possibility of rotational brownouts today, May 31, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.:
ISELCO I (parts of Isabela)
QUIRELCO (entire province of Quirino)
OEDC (Olongapo City)
QUEZELCO I (parts of Quezon)
CASURECO II (parts of Camarines Sur)
MERALCO (parts of Metro Manila)
“NGCP encourages everyone to exercise prudence in using electricity,” said the NGCP.
