2 dead, 7 hurt in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY –– Two motorists died, and at least seven others were injured early Monday in a road mishap in Gumaca town in Quezon province.

The Gumaca police reported that a speeding Isuzu Elf truck driven by Michael Angelo Lazaro bumped a Bicol-bound Toyota Innova driven by Rolando Florano around 1:30 a.m. in the intersection of Barangay Bagong Buhay and Pipisik at the town center.

Due to the strong impact, Florano’s vehicle was thrown into the concrete post at the street corner and subsequently stumbled into the pavement.

Two Innova passengers, Romel Periabras and Howard Ojenal, died on the way to the hospital, Major Hobart Sarmiento, Gumaca police chief, said in a phone interview.

All passengers of the ill-fated Innova suffered injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital.

Florano and his passengers, Rodolfo Trajano, Adrian Matangod, Danilo Dominic, Rochelle Stephanie Periabras, and two unidentified males and females were still undergoing treatment.
