Quezon town dad seeks ban on plastic use

/ 08:33 PM February 11, 2012

PAGBILAO, Quezon—A councilor here urged residents to use banana leaves, native bags and other indigenous packing materials as she moved to ban the use of plastic by local businesses.

Councilor Shierre Ann Portes Palicpic said items sold in markets in the town should be packed in native bags, banana leaves, newspapers and other reusable containers.

“Food shall not be wrapped or packed using plastic,” Palicpic said in her proposed ordinance.

The measure, she said, would be part of the municipal government’s effort to cut down on nonbiodegradable trash. Delfin T. Mallari Jr., Inquirer Southern Luzon
