MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has logged 7,058 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the caseload to 1,223,627, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday.

Of the total number of infections, 53,757 or 4.4 percent were tagged as active cases. Patients having mild or no symptoms comprise 95.5 percent of the tally.

There are also 6,852 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,149,010. Recoveries account for 93.9 of all cases.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 fatalities nationwide is now at 20,860 or 1.70 percent of cases with 139 new deaths being reported on Sunday.

The DOH said there are 80 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The Philippines ranks behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 1,809,926 cases, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

As of posting, the number of global COVID-19 cases is now 169.9 million with 3.53 million deaths, the tracker also indicated.
