CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Philippines — The Northern Mindanao Police Regional Office expects more applicants to the service as the law recently signed by President Rodrigo Duterte has loweed the minimum height requirement for officers.
Republic Act No. 549 also applies to those entering the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Corrections.
For men, the minimum height requirement was lowered from 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 2 inches. For women, it was lowered from 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet.
Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, regional police spokesperson, said, however, that an officer’s worth could not be measured by height alone but more by his dedication to serving the people.
The current batch of 736 police applicants in the region started getting processed last May 24, with their individual body-mass index being measured.
Olaivar could not yet say if the new height standard would already apply to the current batch as some 150 of them would be deployed this July and September.
