PH logs 156 new COVID-19 deaths; 7,443 more infections

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Saturday logged 7,443 additional COVID-19 cases and 156 more deaths because of the disease.

The newly-recorded cases pushed the total number of confirmed infections in the Philippines to 1,216,582, according to the Department of Health’s (DOH) case bulletin.

Of the total number, 53,614 are active cases. The number of deaths, meanwhile, rose to 20,722.

The DOH meanwhile recorded 7,533 more recoveries, bringing the total number of patients who recovered from the disease to 1,142,246.

The department noted that 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of this number, 14 are recoveries, it added.

Further, 91 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

“All labs were operational on May 27, 2021, while 2 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS),” the DOH said.

“Based on data in the last 14 days, the 2 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.3% of samples tested and 0.7% of positive individuals,” it added.

On Saturday, the DOH also confirmed the detection of over 246 additional COVID-19 variant cases in the country.
