Pressure on NCR hospitals easing but 5 near full capacity for COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines—Five of the 12 hospitals in Metro Manila that had been on critical status because of a tsunami of COVID-19 cases have already reached 100 percent bed occupancy, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH) as of May 26.

Calalang General Hospital
F.Y. Manalo Medical Foundation
Metro North Medical Center and Hospital Inc.t
VRP Medical Center
The numbers were lower than 13 hospitals tagged as critical and 10 with fully used COVID-19 beds last May 19.
As pandemic gnaws at NCR health capacity, 13 hospitals bear brunt of cases
At least 13 hospitals remained on the high-risk list, which was also fewer than 14 facilities last week.
Recent data also showed that 156 facilities had submitted numbers and had been categorized based on the occupancy of COVID-19 beds.
Also, at least 56.92 percent or 666 out of 1,170 total intensive care unit (ICU) beds solely for COVID-19 in Metro Manila hospitals are already in use, according to the same DOH data.
The DOH said that on the same day, 41.18 percent, or 1,974 out of 4,794 isolation beds, and 39.50 percent, or 1,442 of 3,651 ward beds in NCR are occupied.
It said bed occupancy rate for the entire NCR reached 42.5 percent or is in the “safe zone” with 4,082 of total 9,615 beds in use. This was lower than the 43.5 percent occupancy rate last week.
DOH classifies occupancy levels for COVID-19 beds in health centers as critical, high risk, moderate, and safe.
Critical hospitals are those with 85 percent bed occupancy rates. High-risk hospitals are those with 70 percent bed occupancy and those with 60 to 70 percent bed occupancy are considered to be at moderate risk.
Hospitals are considered at the safe level if bed occupancy is less than 60 percent.
