Moratorium on tuition, student loans pushed

MANILA, Philippines — The Makabayan bloc is pushing for emergency student aid and relief such as a moratorium on tuition, waivers on student loans, and cash aid to help defray school expenses.

The bloc’s unnumbered House bill, or the Emergency Student Aid and Relief Law, also seeks to grant a P10,000 one-time subsidy and other aid to students amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The measure seeks to help students cope with the costs of alternative modes of learning, like tuition, other school fees, gadgets, and internet connectivity.
