MANILA, Philippines — The weather service is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 1,615 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Raymond Ordinario, a weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said on Friday there was a big chance the LPA would enter the country’s area of responsibility in the coming week.

He added that while there was a small chance the weather disturbance would intensify into a storm, Pagasa had not ruled out the possibility due to favorable conditions in the Pacific Ocean.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said warm weather will prevail in a big part of Luzon on Saturday. But the more frequent formation of thunderstorm clouds are expected to bring rain showers in the afternoon or evening, especially in the western side of Luzon.
