MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing to assign different dates for the filing of certificates of candidacy based on elective positions, Comelec commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. said Friday.

“In response doon sa COVID situation, pinaguusapan pa ito, wala pa itong final approval by the en banc, pinag-uusapan na i-categorize na lang yung mga candidates probably by position and assign a particular date or dates for them,” Kho said in a televised briefing.

“Let’s say, lahat ng mga senador, puwedeng iassign kanila two days, mga presidential and vice presidential position, another day. For local officials, another day, para hindi po sila sabay sabay pupunta sa mga election offices natin,” he explained.

(Let’s say all senatorial candidates will be given two days to file their COC, those eyeing for the presidential and vice presidential position will be given another day. For local officials, they will be given another day. So that they will not go to our election offices at the same time.)

The filing of COCs is set for October 1 to October 8, 2021.

The 2022 national election is on May 9, 2022.
