MANILA, Philippines — Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar announced Thursday she would raffle off a house and lot, motorcycles, and other packages for those vaccinated against COVID-19 in a move to increase inoculation in their area.

Villar expressed hopes that the raffle, also called the “May Bahay sa Bakuna” program, will encourage residents of Las Piñas to get vaccinated.

“Naniniwala po ako na pag may wastong kaalaman ang ating mga kababayan tungkol sa benefits ng pagpapabakuna ay baka ma-encourage sila magpabakuna,” Villar said in an interview with Teleradyo.

Additionally, to encourage them even more, Villar said they decided to give away a house and lot to eligible people.

Villar said Las Piñas, all residents who have already been inoculated—partially (first jab only) and fully (all shots completed)—are eligible for the raffle.

Starting next week, residents will be able to drop off raffle entries using drop boxes, she said.

Every month, 10 “pangkabuhayan” packages will be given away, leading to the grand draw in December, where the house and lot and motorcycles will be raffled off.

Likewise, Villar stressed that the initiative would be funded by personal funds, not by government funds.

According to Villar, one possible reason for the public’s reluctance to get vaccinated is the lack of proper information, especially on social media.

Villar, however, said their local government is “doing everything we can” to convince their residents to get inoculated.
