Bacolod legal office stops village projects that threaten environment

BACOLOD CITY –– The legal office of this city has served a cease-and-desist order against business operations in barangays Sum-ag and Pahanocoy for endangering the environment.

Lawyer Reuben Mikhail Sabig, head of the city legal office enforcement unit, issued the order against the head of the project.

Initial facts gathered, including the report of Sum-ag Barangay Captain Rodney Carmona, showed that the activities involve the cutting of mangroves in a two- to three-hectare area, the building of a wharf (mini-port), and the development of a beach resort.

“The report shows that all these are causing destruction and endangering the environment, not to mention the consequential danger of flooding since the construction of the mini-port narrowed the water passage,” Sabig said.
