TACLOBAN CITY –– Amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas, the spokesperson of the Palo Archdiocese in Leyte is encouraging the faithful to get vaccinated.
Fr. Chris Militante, spokesperson of the Palo Archdiocese, said there is nothing to fear since the vaccines are meant to protect people against COVID-19.
Militante, a priest in San Isidro Labrador Parish in Alangalang, got Tuesday, May 25 his first dose of Sinovac vaccine.
“We highly encourage our parishioners to get the vaccine,” he said.
Among the more than 150 priests of the archdiocese, which covers the province of Leyte, over 20 have been vaccinated.
Among them is Fr. Amadeo Alvero, former spokesperson of the archdiocese, who is now the parish priest of MacArthur town.
At least seven priests in the archdiocese earlier tested positive for COVID-19, while another one had died.
On Thursday, May 27, the Department of Health reported 150 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 20,292.
It includes 853 active cases, 19,135 recoveries, and 304 deaths.
