PH logs 6,483 additional COVID-19 cases; total active cases now 48,109

MANILA, Philippines — The country now has a total of 48,109 active COVID-19 cases as health authorities on Thursday reported an additional 6,483 coronavirus cases.

Since the start of the pandemic last year, the country has already recorded a total of 1,200,430 COVID-19 cases, including the four percent that is active infections.

Of this number, 94.3 percent or 1,131,942 are recoveries, which include the additional 4,335 patients who have also survived the disease.

Meanwhile, there are also 210 more patients who have died, raising the death toll to 20,379.

The DOH said 12.5 percent of the 47,869 individuals who were tested were found positive for COVID-19.

According to the DOH, all laboratories were operational on Tuesday while six laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the 6 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.2 percent of samples tested and 3.9 percent of COVID-19 positive individuals.

The health department also said 25 duplicate entries, including 22 recoveries, were removed from the total case count. Four cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count.

Furthermore, 139 cases that were initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
