Suspected NPA rebel killed in Camarines Sur clash
LEGAZPI CITY — A suspected communist rebel was killed in a clash with government troops in Lupi, Camarines Sur on Wednesday, the Philippine Army said Thursday.
Captain John Paul Belleza, the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, reported that troops from the 9th Infantry Battalion were on a routine patrol when they chanced upon 15 suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Napolidan at around 10 a.m.
Belleza said the soldiers went to the village after receiving information from residents about the presence of the suspected NPA rebels.
An M-16 rifle and four anti-personnel mines were left behind by the suspected rebels at the clash site, Belleza said.
No casualties were reported on the government side.
