ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – A motorcycle rider who tried to evade a police checkpoint in Barangay Cutcut here on Sunday was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A police report from the Angeles City Police Office identified the suspect as Ammar Orogan, 27, a vendor residing at Barangay Sto. Rosario, this city.
Investigation showed police officers were manning an anti-criminality and quarantine checkpoint along the circumferential road in Cutcut village around 4:40 pm when they noticed a motorcycle-riding man who was not wearing a helmet and flagged him down.
Instead of stopping, the rider accelerated, passing the checkpoint at high speed. Policemen chased and eventually caught up with him.
When accosted, the suspect failed to show a driver’s license. He was asked for his motorcycle registration papers, and when he opened its glove compartment, police said they saw a gun inside – a silver Colt caliber .45 pistol.
Police said the gun had a magazine loaded with seven live bullets.
Col. Rommel Batangan, city police director, said the suspect is facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and RA 10054 for failure to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle on the road.
The suspect’s black Yamaha motorcycle had no plate number, Batangan added.
