MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Quezon City on Wednesday issued a show-cause order on City Councilor Franz Pumaren for allegedly violating health protocols during a recent food distribution campaign.

The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has also been instructed to conduct COVID-19 testing among the participants of the event initiated by Pumaren and his office.

“The show-cause order had been received by Councilor Pumaren today,” the city government’s statement read.

According to the city government, the directive to summon the councilor in order for him to explain his violation is consistent with the city’s policy of holding violators of health and safety protocols accountable, “regardless of status and position.”

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte then warned all citizens including officials that they will be held accountable “without fear or favor if they violate health regulations and endanger the safety of the residents.”

The city local department, on the other hand, said that it is already conducting an investigation into the alleged violations and will be filing the appropriate cases to the camp of Pumaren, as warranted.

INQUIRER.net is trying to reach out to the office of Pumaren to get his reaction on the matter.

As of May 26, Quezon City has recorded a total of 94,165 infections; 3,125 of which are active cases; 1,091 deaths; and 89,949 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health said that the total number of infections in the country has reached 1,193,976 total infections as of May 26, with 46,037 active cases and 20,169 deaths.
