LUCENA CITY –– An 18-year-old motorcycle rider died after his vehicle collided with a van along the Maharlika Highway in Calauag town in Quezon province Tuesday night.
The Calauag police reported Wednesday that Jhyds Rotas was driving his motorcycle when he collided with a Mitsubishi L300 van driven by Eric Bagayawa in a section of the highway in Barangay Sumilang around 10 p.m.
Rotas died while being taken to St. Peter General Hospital in the town center.
The report did not state whether or not the fatality wearing a crash helmet.
The police said the motorcycle was trying to overtake another vehicle, but consequently hit the front left bumper of the van coming from the opposite direction.
The van driver also suffered minor injuries.
